Weekend Retreat

On the weekend 8 of us were invited to Carols farm just out of town for a retreat. Carol holds these wonderful weekends about twice a year and we have a great time sewing, eating, drinking, talking and laughing. I made these two rugby league supporter quilts for friends sons, using a flag for the centre.
Sorry the photos are blurred, I have a problem with my camera.

Stiching Angel Gifts

These are two of the gifts made for me by Berni Shell my stitching angel. Thankyou so much Bernie I really appreciate these lovely hand made gifts. Bernie also sent me a laundry bag, steam a seam, which you use to stick applique on with, some chocolate (which I have eaten) a postcard and badge from Seattle where she lives. Bernie also made and sent a lavender bag, but unfortunately we have very strict laws about bringing plant material into Australia so the package was opened by custome and the lavender bag removed. They sent me a note saying I could have the lavender bag "gamma irradiated" at the cost of $42.50, but Bernie and I decided the money could be better spent. Thanks once again.

Spring has sprung

Just couldn't resist sharing some of the lovely spring flowers with you.So far it is too warm for this time of the year and we desperately need rain, but this is some of what is happening at my place.
Apologies to all those in the Northern hemisphere heading into Winter.

Scrappy Quilt

I found this fabric on super special at Quilters biz in the US and couldn't resist it. I am visiting my family in Sydney this weekend and I thought I would give my daughter in law a choice between the two shaggies I have made. Or she can have both if she wants to.

Golf Championships

For the past week Narromine have been playing their championships. This is played over four rounds of 18 holes on two Tuesdays and two Wednesdays. I am a pretty average golfer but on the first Tuesday I had the round of my life playing 11 under my handicap(84) which was 26. I lost 5 shots to bring me back to 21 handicap. The next day I played 1 below my new handicap (89)much to my amazement.
I was leading the handicap. Yesterday I did it again playing right to my handicap (90)and today was the final round and I managed to hold it all together to play 1 over my handicap(91). I won the A grade handicap event. Our golf course is all taken care of by volunteers, so we are really lucky to have it in such great condition. As you can see we don't have grass greens, we putt on a mixture of fine sand mixed with oil. We have to smooth out the sand with a special rake everytime we putt.

On the weekend five of us visited Kerry Swain at the Cottage on the Hill for our annual retreat. The journey was great (4.5 hours)a big thankyou to Peg for driving, the accomodation was fantastic, the scenery is majestic, the town of Nundle is quaint and the patchwork shop divine. This is what I made, double wedding ring with Swanky fabric. Can't wait to finish it.Thanks to Kerry for making it all so special.

Shaggy Quilt

This is how far I have progressed with the shaggy quilt for my daughter in law. I need to cut the edges and wash and dry it.

Road Trip to Cobar

On the 8th August Carol organised a trip to Cobar which is approx 250 kilometers west of Narromine. The Cobar Quilt Shop is well worth a visit with a huge range of fabrics in stock. I thought I could use this ruler as I have been wanting to make a quilt using diamond shapes.
My daughter in law has requested a shaggy quilt. The fabric is Cosmic cricket, I hope she likes it.

This range is Cider Mill Road by Nancy Halverson, I bought a layer cake.

Help is needed

Sorry I have been missing from blogland, school holidays is my only excuse. I need some help with the scrappy quilt I am making. When I have sewn the blocks they have to be trimmed back to 4.5 inches. Does anyone have advice on how to do this so I end up with the triangles of the dark fabrics the same size. Look forward to hearing from you.

It is not far from Wellington in NSW and overlooks Burrendong dam.Ridgecrest is run by the Baptist church but allows anyone to hire their facilities. We stay in "the Lodge".Eight of us went and we had a great time.

I made this scrappy quilt top, but I am planning to add more. Thanks to Peg who did all the organising but couldn't go, we all missed you heaps.

Weekend away

Where does time go? I can't believe that it is a month since I have done a post.I have been to Sydney for Easter, and have had 4 grandchildren and a friend to visit for a week. Then we had a weekend at Carol's farm. Six of us slept for two nights with two more visiting in the day time. It was organised for us to stay in pyjamas for the whole weekend.(We did shower and put fresh ones on each day). It was great.

This is some of what I did over our pyjama party weekend. It doesn't quite grab me. It needs to stand out more. I might make a tble topper out of it. Peg suggested I put the plain white in and it does look better.Still deciding what to do.

Going Away again!

Not much sewing has been happening this week. I have started a black and white project, this is how the blocks look, but as it is school holidays we are going to see our grandsons and bringing some of them back to Narromine for a holiday.

This is the label put on the quilt from the last post. I will be delivering the quilt whilst we are in Sydney. Hope everyone had a great Easter.Golf is in full swing and I have had one round that was almost golf, the rest have been very ordinary.

After finishing the top on Sunday, I decided to quilt it on Monday. I have stippled the small squares in the centre and have quilted straight lines both ways on the outer squares.

5 hours both days. The close up of the quilting doesn't show up in my photos.

Just the label to do.

Girls Day in the Country

I am back from a great weekend spent in Nundle at The Girls Day in the Country. Rosalie Quinlan and Leanne Beasley were the guest tutors and it was all organised by Kerry Swain from Cottage on the Hill. What a wonderful time we had. This is the project I am trying to achieve. It is punch needle and designed by Rosalie, hers is the front of a bag. I am going to make mine into a wall hanging.

This is as far as I have got, it takes a lot of work. The grass looks a bit dodgy, its verigated thread. The golfing season starts tomorrow, we begin with 9 holes and a delicious lunch so I am, going to help organise that this afternoon, will keep you posted on how I went.

The traveller returns.

Having had the most relaxing holiday, I am back to my wonderful life. Here are just a few photos to view until I have some sewing project to display.Sydney was our first port of call.

Coffs Harbour,on the mid North coast of NSW. NSW has some of the best beaches and scenery I have ever seen, it is just beautiful.

Waterfalls at Dorrigo.

The beach at our resort at Coffs Harbour. The day after we arrived in Narromine, we were comandeered to help clean an old rental property, owned by our son. This took us the best part of ten days!!! I have got my sewing machine out and have started on a project. Looking forward to seeing all those going to GDITC at Nundle.
